I was recently looking online to sign up for a new Credit Card when I stumbled on the HSBC credit card. Apparently, HSBC is one of the largest issuers of Mastercard products and I figured that they must have a pretty good credit card that I could get approved for. I looked around at the different cards they had, and one that stuck out to me was their new HSBC ecosmart card.
I did some research on this HSBC credit card and found out that you basically get one point for every dollar you spend and then you can redeem those points for "eco-friendly rewards". According to HSBC, eco-friendly rewards refers to airline tickets, hotel stays, car rentals and many other things. How they thought that any of these things are eco-friendly is beyond me... Since when is taking a flight somewhere good for the environmentc
I guess this is all about them appearing eco-friendly, and not actually being eco-friendly (as is the case with most companies).

However, what I did like about this credit card is that you could choose to redeem your points for 1% cash back instead. So they pretty much gave you an option of how you wanted to redeem your points.

I also liked the fact that the HSBC credit card didn't have an annual fee, and they were offering 6 months of no interest when you signed up. Overall, I'd say that the HSBC credit card is decent, but nothing special. I didn't like the fact that they attempted to look like they were doing a favor to the environment by issuing this credit card either.
